Andy Murray returns to the scene of his first Grand Slam victory when he heads to the courts at Flushing Meadows for the first round of the US Open on Monday.
It has been ten years since Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in a five-set match at the New York event in 2012, at which point he defeated a major duck in the fifth Grand Slam final of his career.
Murray, now 35 and battling cramp problems after undergoing major hip surgery, is back as a tournament outsider for the first time in a decade as he seeks to advance beyond the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017. .
The Scot is off to a tough start in the first round against Argentina’s 24th seed Francisco Cerundro. He is a player noted for his powerful forehand and won his first ATP title at his Open in Båstad last month.
