TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 30, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Vertex Company, a V2X company (NYSE: VVX), has unveiled its latest technology for a proposed congestion charging zone in Tel Aviv. The Optical Detection Intelligent Network (ODIN) is an advanced and compact toll system that can be deployed in urban locations where road-spanning gantries and toll booths cannot be installed.
ODIN integrates the functions of multiple different devices in a traditional all-electronic toll collection system into a single sensor, small enough to fit on a typical city light pole. The primary sensor is an ultra-high-definition camera for image-based toll collection, eliminating the need for vehicle transponders.
Aileen Amirault, vice president and general manager of The Vertex Company, said: “We provide reliable, high-tech toll collection with which she processes millions of toll transactions a day in her 400+ locations around the world.”
A congestion zone, also known as cordon pricing, is a type of toll that charges drivers to enter, exit, or drive within a particular area. It is commonly used to manage traffic in dense and congested areas such as city centers.
ODIN was developed and tested on Canadian and US roads and is currently approved for congestion zone pricing projects worldwide.
“Today’s announcement adds another compelling option for congestion charging projects in Tel Aviv,” said Colleen Murphy-Vincent, director of transportation, technology and toll solutions at The Vertex Company. “Our system provides toll revenue to our customers without disrupting traffic. With ODIN, vehicles can be accurately detected, tracked, classified and imaged in all weather and light conditions, so vehicles You can move at traffic speed.”
The Vertex Company has more than 25 years of experience in fully electronic toll collection, serving customers across 10 time zones and generating over $2 billion in annual customer transaction volume. Vertex Systems Israel, LLC of The Vertex Company, has been the provider of the Cross-Israel Highway, known as Highway 6, since 2001.
