As one of the leading fashion designer duo, when did you realize you had quite an international presence? that stiff?
When first exhibited in 2004, the entire collection was purchased by international retailers such as Harrods and Villa Moda. It was then that we first realized that we had an international edge. It then did a showcase at London Fashion Week and eventually moved to Miami Fashion Week.
At Miami Fashion Week, we realized that our next step should be presented at LA Fashion Week. And soon, we found ourselves on the runway at New York Fashion Week.
What do you think of your signature design aesthetic that appeals to Indian as well as Western stars?
Falguni Shane Peacock’s vibe is young, cool, edgy and futuristic. And we, as a brand, love to have fun and experiment with our creations. It resonates with many Indian and Western stars.
Jennifer Lopez’s style is different from Beyoncé’s. How do you approach the creative process of figuring out what fits into their larger-than-life persona?
It’s important to understand that everyone has talent that other talent It’s unique and stands out from the rest. As a designer, I believe in bringing out your authentic persona by experimenting and creating edgy, young and futuristic outfits. Complement their personality and style merchant.
Bollywood is all about high-end fashion and red carpet luxury. Is it the same when designing for international stars? What are the current trends? Minimalism or maximalism?
The defining aspects of our brand are committed and constantly working to form a bold and vibrant ensemble. we like to stick our authentic style, is a maximalist While designing for Bollywood and international stars.
What sets your designs apart from other couture brands that have designed for international stars?
It’s the feathers, sequins and prints from the brand’s DNA that differentiate our designs and make us who we are.
Beyoncé wore that iconic gold gown at the Wearable Art Gala in March 2018, and Jennifer Lopez wore two of your other designs at the Billboard Music Awards and Kiss concert respectively. How does a design like this differ from a red carpet design?
Whether it’s on the red carpet or at a live concert, we believe the design process should be fun. We’re always having fun while bringing the celebrity vision to life. We’re trying to see what’s different and how close we can come to their costume imagination. It’s thrilling for us when we get it right.
Gowns and dresses dominate in the West, but there is also ethnic wear in India. What challenges do you face as a creator with a global presence?
Gone are the days when ethnic and traditional were the only options for Indian red carpet looks. No matter what your ensemble is, it’s all about doing your best. Whether Indian or international, we try to use design and creativity to bring out the authentic personality of celebrities. No challenges.
Let’s talk about the iconic lehenga worn by Carrie Bradshaw And Just Like That. What was the experience like designing an iconic character who is also a fashion icon?
Honestly, this is the first time I didn’t design for a star. This lehenga was part of the Mon Amour Jag Niwas campaign released in March 2021. We were thrilled to hear that, as she is truly a fashion icon with impeccable style.
You’ve designed so many icons already, do you have any other western names left on your wishlist?
Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Meryl Streep, and Julianne Moore are some of the names on our list.
