(CNN) — When it comes to fashion, street style has as much fame as runway style.
Because urban chic always started on the street. The streets allow people of all classes and backgrounds to mingle with each other on their way to work, school, home, and entertainment venues.
A street, not just a neighborhood, can define a city’s culture.
“In most of the world, life before the pandemic has returned dramatically,” Time Out travel editor James Manning said in a statement. “We’re out and about again for a city break,” he said. It contains major thoroughfares.”
There are 33 streets on this year’s list, three more than the first roundup for 2021. It also includes several new cities such as Taipei, Mumbai, Athens and Accra.
North America
MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village, New York, is number 29 on the list.

This year’s top spot is Wellington Street in Montreal’s Verdun neighborhood.

Melbourne, Australia, which had Smith Street at the top of the 2021 list, has fallen to number two this year. A notable debut for 2022 will be Yongkang Street in Taipei, home to popular craft beer maker Zhangmen Brewery.
Huang Shih-fang, director of the Taiwan Tourism Board’s International Affairs Division, told CNN: “We hope that tourists will come back to the area once the borders are opened.”
Europe
London-based Time Out seemed closer to home with some of this year’s picks: The British capital’s coolest thoroughfare in 2022 is Deptford High Street, with stalls, markets, shops, bars and more are mixed. Time Out editor Chris Waywell described it as not only the coolest street in London, but the “liveliest” one.
Further north, Glasgow’s Great Western Road is the third highest road in the UK.
Other European streets on the 2022 list are Kolokotroni in Athens, Echegaray Street in Madrid and Chapel Street in Dublin.
Dublin-based travel writer Nicola Brady says of the last one of these three, Capel (rhymes with “maple”) “feels like a proper slice of old Dublin.” .
She added that the street, which became a pedestrian zone earlier this year, “is lined with decades-old small hardware stores and pubs alongside newer Korean and Vietnamese restaurants.”
