The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored two high school students for a week-long Youth Conservation Camp (YCC) at Virginia Tech this summer. Marina Morris, her 9th grade student at Fuqua School, and Nia Davis, her 10th grade student at Prince Edward County High School, applied for this opportunity and were accepted.
“YCC was a lot of fun and helped me learn more about the career path I wanted to follow,” says Morris. “They have a lot of hands-on activities and you can talk to a lot of people with different environment-related jobs. We encourage you to apply for
Davis added that she learned a lot.
“Since it was my first time, my favorite activity was canoeing.”
All high school students in Amelia County, Notway County, or Prince Edward County are eligible for this opportunity. Check her PSWCD website or Facebook page in the spring for more information about applying and camping. www.piedmontswcd.org.
