Lee Jung-jae, star of hit Netflix series ‘Squid Game’, reprise his role as a manic killer in ‘Ray’, a spin-off TV series from 2020 South Korean action-horror film ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ .
According to South Korean media sources, Lee is starring in and co-producing the series through his artist studio company and Hive Media, producers of Deliver Us From Evil. variety I have reached out for more information.

In the original, Hwang Jung-min played the role of In-nam, a former Black Ops agent who visits Thailand to investigate the kidnapping case. There he is chased by Lee’s character, Ray, a Korean-Japanese rogue whose brother was killed by Innam. Rey, deeply tattooed and charming, embarks on a bloody revenge.
‘Rey’ is set to develop the captivating evil Rey’s backstory, establish how he became a brutal killer, and set him up against other villains around the world. .
The series is written by Kim Bo-tong (“DP”) and will be co-directed by Shin Woo-seok and Hong Won-chan, the former director of Deliver Us From Evil.
Ace cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo, known for “Parasite”, “Broker”, “Burning”, “Snowpiercer” and “The Wailing”, will be the cinematographer of “Deliver Us From Evil”.
Pre-production is reported to begin in 2023. No streaming platform attachment has been announced yet.
“Deliver Us From Evil” was released in August 2020, during the suspension of South Korea’s pandemic lockdown, and grossed a staggering $28.9 million from an audience of 4.36 million.
Lee is currently the director, producer and star of the 1980s spy drama The Hunt, which debuted at Cannes. The film received mixed reactions at Cannes, with some foreign critics calling it confusing. Lee has since recut it for an international audience and set to perform a new version in Toronto.
Korean audiences have had no such issues with the complexity within South Korea, and the film has been at the top of the theatrical box office figures for the past two weekends. Since its release on August 10, he has grossed $26 million from 3.35 million ticket sales.
Lee recently became the first Asian performer to win Best Actor in a Streaming Series, Drama at the 2022 Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards. He is also attached to the second season of ‘Squid Game’.
