Throughout the Jimmy Garoppolo speculation offseason, most onlookers wondered when the quarterback found a new home.
However, Jimmy G remains.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a restructured contract that includes a no-trade and no-tag clause. and incentives of up to $9 million.
Not the result anyone expected. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler called the news a “big swing of momentum” and claimed the team expected the 49ers to release him.
Not an expected move, but some prefer decisions from both sides. The 49ers will keep Garoppolo as a quality backup for Trey his lance and Jimmy G will be able to control where he plays next.
Of course, some wonder if the 49ers will sway their commitment to Lance with Garoppolo still on the team.
Keeping Garoppolo creates an awkward situation for Lance, who may always be looking over his shoulder. He could return to being the quarterback that led him to the championship game.
Lance could start in San Francisco in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be away from Jimmy G all season.
