The two women discussed their biracial identities.
Carrie opened up to Meghan about moving frequently as a girl and feeling caught between the black and white sides of the city.
“I didn’t fit anywhere,” Carey said.
Meghan referred to an interview she read in which actress Halle Berry said she was treated as a black woman rather than as a biracial woman because of her dark complexion.
“And for us, I think it’s very different because we have white skin,” Meghan said. “You’re not treated as a black woman. You’re not treated as a white woman.” You are in the middle.”
Meghan told Carey that when she started dating Prince Harry, she was just beginning to be treated like a black woman.
“I always thought it was okay to say I was mixed,” Carrie said.
