
Professional tennis players had a strong run at last week’s US Open, but local high school tennis standout Mika Ikemori has been recognized for her talent and resilience.
A senior at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, Ikemori finished second in the singles division of the California Interscholastic Federation, reached the finals in a Level 3 doubles tournament, and competed in UTR Pro Tennis events, according to the Orange County Register. was recognized at the Southern California National High School Tennis All-American Banquet in June, all the while battling epilepsy.
Ikemori has previously said her condition is mild and she takes medication to control seizures that occur on and off the court. will attend the University of California, Davis.
Her coach, Chuck Kingman, told the Orange County Register:
In January, Ikemori received a new pacemaker-like device to help keep her seizures under control even further. I am hoping for
