May Day holiday travel period

Jackson, Mississippi – The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is set to step up enforcement efforts during the 2022 Labor Day vacation travel period. It will start on September 2nd at 6:00 AM and end on Monday, September 6th at 12:00 PM. Midnight.
Troopers will conduct high-visibility enforcement actions and safety checkpoints to promote safe travel and reduce fatal collisions during Labor Day holiday travel. Speeding, seatbelt wearing and distracted driving are the main focus on holiday weekends.
During the 2021 Labor Day holiday travel period, MHP investigated 146 crashes resulting in 6 fatalities and 186 DUI arrests on state and federal highway systems. MHP also issued 443 subpoenas for crew restraint violations during its enforcement period.
“As we enjoy the last public holiday of the summer, we must do our part to enjoy it responsibly,” said Colonel Randy Ginn. While resting, our troopers will continue to work to make safe travel our top priority.”
