Higher gasoline prices have given drivers some relief, but the average cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in Southern California is well over $5.
But with the Labor Day three-day weekend just around the corner, people are probably gearing up to get on a plane or drive out of town before summer is over.
The exact average price in Los Angeles County is $5.28, a significant drop from the price a few months ago.
The price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in June was $6.46.
What was the main reason for the relegation? More people are working remotely, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA), which claims the war in Ukraine continues to affect gas prices.
Nevertheless, people are preparing to leave town for a “busy weekend.”
AAA spokesperson Marie Montgomery told CBSLA reporter Jake Reiner that “things are pretty calm right now and that concern is gone, so prices are going down.”
Although there has been some easing recently, most drivers prefer to pay less than $5 for a gallon of gas.
“The price increases we’ve seen in the last few years are still a bit too much. Once you start getting closer to $5, the problem becomes bigger,” said Adrian Warner.
LAX is forecasting 456,000 departing passengers this weekend. The figure is up from his 398,000 passengers traveling through his LAX on Labor Day weekend in 2021.
If you are flying or considering traveling on weekends, AAA recommends booking your flights with one of our travel agents to avoid cancellations.
If you drive out of town, the AAA said you should get your car inspected before you leave.
