It’s been over five years since Johnny Manziel last set foot on the football field. He’s kept a low profile in recent years, but Netflix could change that.
On Friday, Netflix hinted at a project featuring the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner. A 10-second clip of him sitting as the cameras began prepping to shoot, in just a few hours he went viral with over a million views.
Netflix hasn’t said a word since posting that clip, so we don’t know if it’s part of a larger Manziel-centric documentary, or another project entirely.
Whatever it is, the football world is buzzing. Some are keen to see what a proper documentary about Manziel would look like.
Johnny Manziel was one of the greatest college football players of all time. He took him to new heights in his two years as a starter at Texas A&M, setting Heisman records while becoming the first redshirt freshman to win the trophy.
College success didn’t follow Manziel in the NFL, however. After being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, he appeared in just 15 games before being released before the 2016 season following domestic violence allegations.
A year later, Manziel began trying his hand at the Canadian Football League (the then short-lived AAF) and now plays in the semi-professional Fan Control Football League.
It will be interesting to see if this Netflix documentary can introduce him in a new light.
