Josh Rojas hit a three-run double and Emmanual Rivera hit a two-run homer in a six-run inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago White Sox, 7–2, on Friday night.
Chicago player Alec Thomas hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Christian Walker to start Arizona’s frenzied second inning. White gave his Sox starter Johnny Cueto (6-6) a base run to Gerardo Perdomo and Rojas hit his 20th double of the year. Four pitches later, Rivera hit his 11th home run of the season to make it 6–0.
Cueto’s struggle continued into the third round, when Dalton Bacho homered on a full count to right, clearing the fence to give Arizona a 7-0 lead.
Cueto struggled with five innings out, giving up all seven runs and five hits. He struck out his four and walked two.
Tommy Henry (3-2) allowed one run and four hits in five innings. He hit his three steps, three.
Debuting for the White Sox, Elvis Andrus put Chicago on the scoreboard with a ground ball that scored Eloy Jimenez in the fourth inning. AJ Pollock hit his eighth home run of the season in the ninth inning to close out the scoring.
Varsho made a leaping grab at the right field fence and denied Romy Gonzalez’s home run in the fifth inning. Thomas also made two diving catches in center field and denied a base hit for Chicago.
Chicago (63-63) dropped to .500 that year after entering the day four games behind AL Central leader Cleveland.

Diamondbacks: RHP Reyes Moronta activated Thursday after being waived Sunday. RHP Chris Devenski was designated an assignment to clear a spot on the roster. Manager Tory Roblo said he would “want[Devenski]back” if he cleared the wave. … Lovullo said he gave LF Jake McCarthy a day off.
White Sox: CF Luis Roberto (List) remains active, but Tony La Roussa said he is unlikely to play this weekend. Robert missed seven games near the end of July due to a sprained left wrist. La Russa said it gets worse when Robert “takes a funky swing.” … INF Yoan Moncada (hamstring strain) is getting through his days after Thursday’s loss in Baltimore. LaRussa said he was “hurt” and said he could play on Saturday or Sunday. … According to La Russa, SS Tim Anderson (left hand ligament tear) he will be back in September. He said Anderson is staying fit and “he’ll start swinging soon.
