As if losing to the Old Dominion wasn’t enough for the Virginia Tech Hokies, they could have suffered a more severe loss in the locker room afterward.
After the game, it was discovered that the Hawkey family had been robbed in the locker room at SB Ballard Stadium in Norfolk. In a statement, the school confirmed the robbery and confirmed that police were involved in the incident.
“Virginia Tech’s Athletic Department has confirmed that there are items missing from Virginia Tech’s locker room following Friday night’s football game against Old Dominion in Norfolk. We are working with law enforcement and Old Dominion University on the matter and have no further comment,” the school said.
Some took to Twitter to denounce the theft, while others thought it was a fitting way to end a disastrous day in all aspects of football at Virginia Tech. Some have noted that thieves and robberies in Old Dominion are not uncommon:
The loss to Old Dominion was Virginia Tech’s first loss to a non-Power Five school or top 25 independent school since 2018. New head coach Brent had as bad a debut as anyone could have imagined for his pry.
Virginia Tech’s next three games will be a challenge. It will be a three-game homestand, but they will start with ACC rivals Boston College, followed by FCS Minnow’s Wofford, before facing West Virginia on Thursday. 3 games in 12 days.
Things couldn’t get any easier for the Hawkeyes in the coming weeks.
