    APSU Volleyball wins Louisiana Tech in 4 sets – Clarksville Online

    APSU women's volleyballClemson, South Carolina – Mikayla Powell opened the 2022 season with 16 kills and the Austin Pea State University (APSU) volleyball team won four sets (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-25) against Louisiana Tech. 17) claimed. Big Orange Bash Friday morning at Clemson’s Jervey Gym.

    Powell was one of three hitters to achieve double-digit kills. Marleina Brinton added an effort of 13 kills and 14 digs, while Jada Clarke led the APSU offense with her 10 kills. Kelsey Meade recorded a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs.




    Austin Pea State (1-0) finished the game with a .230 batting average in all four sets, 54 kills and a .273 attack average. Meanwhile, the government held Louisiana Tech to 47 kills and a .176 attack rate.

    Louisiana Tech (0-1) took their only win in the second set, using 17 kills and a .342 attack percentage to stop a late Austin Pea State explosion. However, the Governors quickly held the Lady Techsters to 10 kills in the third set before winning the fourth set with just eight kills and a .

    The governor is currently gearing up to face host Clemson in the CT contest Friday night at 6:00, which you can watch on ESPN+.

    2022 APSU Volleyball - Mikayla Powell.  (Robert Smith, APSU Sports Information)governor

    Mikayla Powell had 16 kills, a .433 attack rate and added 3 blocks in the 2022 campaign.

    She currently has three consecutive double-digit killouts after finishing 2021 with performances of 16 and 18 kills at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship. This was Austin’s 15th double-digit kill total in her 34th game at Pea State University.

    2022 APSU Volleyball - Sadie Edmundston.  (Robert Smith, APSU Sports Information)Austin Pea State earned its first win against Louisiana Tech to level the all-time series at 1-1.

    The APSU governor improved to 5-6 in the season opener under head coach Taylor Mott.

    Graduate student Sadie Edmonston came off the bench and had 6 assists and 5 digs in her Governors debut.

    Freshman Sarah Karnathan had 5 kills and 2 blocks in her college debut.

    2022 APSU Volleyball - Jada Clarke.  (Robert Smith, APSU Sports Information)Set 1 (Government wins 25-20): Austin Pea State University started the season with a 5-1 run and a wire-to-wire victory. Powell, Jada Clarke, and Tegan Sailing each got 3 kills and 13 kills.

    Set 2 (Louisiana Tech won 25-22): Louisiana Tech came out of the gate earlier in the second set, leading 7-4 by three points. Austin Pea State fought back, holding the set 12–12 with him tied, and the team eventually battled with his changes to a draw in the 11th inning and he led in the sixth. The final draw was 22-22 before Louisiana Tech scored the final three points of the set. Powell scored 6 kills to lead his 15-kill performance for the APSU Govs, but LTU in sets he had 17 kills and a .342 offensive percentage.

(Robert Smith, APSU Sports Information)Set 3 (Government wins 25-18): The third set was nearly identical to the first, with Austin Pea State taking an early lead and winning. Louisiana Tech forced his two draws very early on, but her 4-0 APSU run on Sadie Edmonston’s serve broke the set. Austin Pea State returned to a balanced offense with Powell, Brinton and Clark each scoring three kills.

    Set 4 (Government wins 25-17): Early on, it was a battle royal with Govs and Lady Techsters battling for the opening of 26 points with 10 draws and 9 lead changes. However, the APSU Govs scored her 10th straight point and Kelsey Mead blew the game out on the service line. Powell made no errors on the fourth and scored four kills on eight attempts. Brinton had five more kills as Gabs won the match.
