Manchester United are nearing a deal with Ajax to sign forward Anthony.
United’s latest offer is believed to be close to the €100m (£85m) fee Ajax wanted.
Antony was again ruled out of the Ajax squad for Sunday’s game in Utrecht as negotiations between the clubs continue.
Personal terms are not believed to be an issue in this transaction and we expect the transaction to accelerate within the next 24-48 hours.
However, Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder wants to keep Anthony and both sides still have work to do.
Ajax also hope to bring in a replacement if he is allowed to leave. I have.
United have been chasing the 22-year-old for weeks, with a £67.9m (€80m) offer rejected by the club earlier this week.
United is also considering other options. They have an interest in Barcelona striker Pierre his Emeric his Aubameyang and continue to monitor his situation. Chelsea are in talks to sign Aubameyang.
United’s interest remains on PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo. Signing both Antony and Gakpo has been described as “low chance but not impossible”.
In an interview with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on YouTube on Friday, Anthony said: Arrived and with them, indeed a great offer.
“During the window month, the meeting has ended, including a contract renewal offer from Ajax. I have made it clear once again that I want to leave the club.
“Today, at a meeting with the board of directors, I expressed my interest in leaving the club. I always refuse with the argument that I only have 5 days to replace (me).
“I am not asking (Ajax) to let me go, I am asking Ajax to sell me for the highest amount that any player who plays in the Eredivisie has received.”
A move to United would see Anthony reunited with former Ajax boss Eric ten Hag.
“I was very happy in Amsterdam. After winning titles, making friends and being part of my career with Ajax, I am now ready and motivated to follow my story and my dreams. emphasized,” added Anthony.
“People need to listen to me and understand that my motivation makes me happy. This is necessary to continue performing at a high level. Ajax will always be in my heart. I have.”
The transfer market closes at 11pm on Thursday. That means United have four days from Sunday to complete their next deal.
Why Anthony is the Ten Hug Man
“Of course I hope he will be Ajax’s next star.” Introducing Anthony.
“Ajax always strives for the top,” added Ten Hag. “So I expect him to do his best to reach that level of expectations. The rest we’ll see in the future.”
