Earlier this year, Disney reiterated plans to add general entertainment to Disney+ in the US. As a result, Disney+ in the US has acquired parental controls to allow more mature content like “Deadpool” and “Daredevil” and other shows like “Blackish” and “The Orville.” became.
But compared to international Disney+, which has the Star brand as the sixth tile within Disney+, it doesn’t add as much general entertainment as many would have hoped.
In a recent Q3 investor call, Disney CFO Christine M. McCarthy reaffirmed that Disney+ has a lot more to offer.
We look forward to several upcoming catalysts, including reaching a steady state of original content release for big events, delivering premium all-around entertainment, international local originals, and the upcoming launch of our ad-supported tier.
The new ad-supported tier is scheduled to launch in the US on December 8, 2022. This raises the ad-free tier to $10.99/month, so you’ll need to add more general entertainment content to justify the $3/month price.
Unfortunately, Disney hasn’t outlined its overall plans for adding more general entertainment to Disney+. Still, this next price increase will likely require even more additions to reduce the number of people unsubscribing. I will outline the plan in a little more detail.
