
With Texas Tech’s 100th anniversary kickoff looming less than 100 days away, the university announced this week an event-filled plan around Lubbock, state and across the country to celebrate its 2023 milestone.
The celebration officially kicks off on December 2nd with the Carol of Lights Holiday Lighting Celebration at Lubbock’s Tech Campus. However, the day before kickoff, the Texas Tech Museum will open his centennial exhibit at 10 a.m. in Lubbock with free admission.
Texas Tech was officially founded on February 10, 1923, and over the past 100 years Tech has grown and evolved into a system of over 40,000 students statewide and worldwide.
Lawrence Schovanek, president of Texas Tech University, said in the university’s 100th anniversary article: “Our second century is an opportunity to further improve the way we think. To serve everyone who chooses to pursue a college degree at Texas Tech, regardless of where they are from. , to find creative solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges.We have the ability and will to do all this.”
The celebration continues on MLK Day on January 16, when classes resume for the Spring 2023 semester. His centenary service event in Lubbock.
This event serves as the first service event intertwined throughout the celebration event. The university has a long legacy of service to the community, which continues in the next chapter of its history.

During the celebration, Texas Tech set a goal for the Red Raider community to complete at least 1 million hours of volunteer work and service.
“The message is clear: service has always been a part of Texas Tech University, and today, as we begin our centenary celebrations, serving our many communities remains at the forefront of our identity.” and read a statement from Tech’s office.
MLK Day’s next event is another nationwide service event on February 10th. Founders Day – Texas Tech Alumni National Volunteer Day coincides with the university’s founding in 1923 and coincides with the Founders Day Centennial Illumination event at Lubbock. .
Later in February, Capitol Tech: A Texas Tech Centennial Celebration will be held on February 28th and Texas Tech Day will be held on March 1st at the State Capitol.
The celebration travels to Houston for the Boots and Bowties: Texas Tech Centennial Celebration and Texas Tech Day at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 10 and 11.
A ticket or RSVP is required to attend all events from February 28th to March 11th.
The celebration returns briefly to Lubbock on April 14th for Tech to Town, Tech’s annual service event.
Celebrations head east again for the Star of the Night: Texas Tech Centennial Celebration in Dallas.
On November 23rd, the celebration heads to the Big Apple from Broadway to Broadway. Texas Tech Centennial Celebration in New York City. See Goin’ his band perform for the first time at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 24th.
Finally, the celebration concludes in Lubbock on December 1st for the annual Carol of Lights.
