6. Notify people who need to know about your move
In addition to your job and utility company, let your bank, doctor, and insurance company know about your move. You can also provide your new address to these service providers.
7. Start packing
If you haven’t started packing yet, now is the time to start packing. Start with the items you use infrequently and work your way up to the essentials.
8. Confirm the arrangement with the mover
A few days before your move, call your moving company of choice to confirm a date and time to pick up your belongings from your current home. You can also check the delivery date from the moving company.
2 weeks before moving
At this point, you should have some unfinished ends to tie together.
9. Clean up your old house
I don’t want to leave a mess for the next tenant. Thoroughly clean all rooms, paying particular attention to kitchens and bathrooms.
10. Utility Last Read File
Call your gas, water, and electric companies to schedule a final reading. By doing this, you won’t be charged after you move out.
11. Apply for time off
If you haven’t already, now is the time to take a day or two off work. This will give you the time you need to settle into your new location.
